Abstract
A two component binder system comprising a highly dispersible, high specific surface area precipitated calcium carbonate (colloidal PCC) and a cationic starch, especially a cationic potato starch, for improving filler retention, opacity and strength during papermaking.
Claims4
A binder system for use in a papermaking process, said system comprising a highly dispersible, high surface area precipitated calcium carbonate and a cationic starch. Wherein the precipitated calcium carbonate has a surface area of from 10 m.sup.2 /g-200 m.sup.2 /g and the ratio of precipitated calcium carbonate:
- cationic starch is 2:1 to 1:20 by weight.
