A documenting reading apparatus is comprised of a cylindrically shaped color filter with three filter elements having different colors. Both a light source and a cylindrical lens are disposed inside this cylindrical filter.

In a document reading apparatus for reading color information of a document by using a color filter to color-decompose scanning light, a color filter formed in a cylindrical shape with a plurality of filter elements having different colors, a light source disposed inside said cylindrical color filter and a cylindrical lens disposed inside said cylindrical color filter.
