Process for carrying out an enzymatic reaction, in which the substrate treated is in an organic liquid which is a fluorinated hydrocarbon, which can include halogens other than fluorine.

In a process of carrying out an enzymatic reaction comprising contacting a substrate dissolved in an organic liquid solvent therefor with the enzyme, the improvement which comprises said solvent comprising a fluorinated hydrocarbon and the reaction is conducted in a non-aqueous environment.
