Abstract
This invention relates to a color-shifted dye compounds containing at least one thermally unstable carbamate moiety which are useful in thermal imaging. These compounds may be represented by the formula [M--(X).sub.q ].sub.p D wherein M is a carbamate moiety; X is --N.dbd., --SO.sub.2 -- or --CH.sub.2 --; D taken with X and M represents the radical of a color-shifted organic dye, said carbamate moiety M comprising a tert-alkoxycarbonyl group, ##STR1## wherein R' is halomethyl or alkyl.
Claims14
A compound of the formula
- [M'--X).sub.q ].sub.p D
- wherein M' has the formula ##STR73## wherein R is alkyl;
- --SO.sub.2 R.sub.1 wherein R.sub.1 is alkyl;
- phenyl;
- naphthyl;
- or phenyl substituted with alkyl, alkoxy, halo, trifluoromethyl, cyano, nitro, carboxy, --CONR.sub.2 R.sub.3 wherein R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 each are hydrogen or alkyl, --CO.sub.2 R.sub.4 wherein R.sub.4 is alkyl or phenyl, --COR.sub.5 wherein R.sub.5 is amino, alkyl or phenyl, --NR.sub.6 R.sub.7 wherein R.sub.6 and R.sub.7 each are hydrogen or alkyl, --SO.sub.2 NR.sub.8 R.sub.9 wherein R.sub.8 and R.sub.9 each are hydrogen, alkyl or benzyl, Z' has the formula ##STR74## wherein R' is halomethyl or alkyl;
- X is --N.dbd., --SO.sub.2 -- or --CH.sub.2 --;
- D taken with X and M' represents the radical of a color-shifted organic dye;
- q is 0 or 1;
- and p is a whole number of at least 1;
- said Z' being removed from said M' upon the application of heat to effect a visually discernible change in spectral absorption characteristics of said dye.
