Abstract
The catalyzed oxidative coupling of a lower molecular weight alkane to more valuable, higher molecular weight hydrocarbons and oxidative coupling catalysts for use therein are disclosed.
Claims10
A method for converting at least one feedstock alkane containing from 1 to 3 carbon atoms to heavier hydrocarbons, comprising:
- contacting the feedstock alkane with an oxygen-containing gas in a reactor in the presence of an oxidative coupling catalyst at a temperature in the range of from about 600.degree. C. to about 1,000.degree. C., wherein the oxidative coupling catalyst comprises a reducible compound selected from the group consisting of of lead, antimony, vanadium, tin, bismuth, cadmium, manganese and thallium and a mixture thereof on an amorphous refractory inorganic oxide support comprising silica having a surface area in the range of from above about 21 m.sup.2 /gm to about 175 m.sup.2 /gm.
C., wherein the oxidative coupling catalyst comprises a reducible compound of lead on an amorphous refractory inorganic oxide support comprising silica having a surface area in the range of from above about 21 m.sup.2 /gm to about 175 m.sup.2 /gm.
