Abstract
A fire retardant composite roofing material comprising an upper layer of a fire retardant EPDM material and a lower layer of a non-fire retardant EPDM material, wherein this composite material is a cured sheet membrane, a vulcanizable flashing material, or non-vulcanizing flashing material.

An EPDM composite roofing material, with a top surface exposed to the atmosphere and a bottom surface adjoining a roofing substrate, said material being of a predetermined thickness and having a fire retardant additive incorporated substantially only in that portion of said material extending from said top surface inwardly toward said bottom surface, wherein the thickness of that portion of said material incorporating said fire retardant additive ranges up to 75% to the total predetermined thickness of said material.
