Abstract
A lubricant mixture suitable for a manual transmission fluid comprising: (a) a boronated overbased alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salt selected from the group consisting of sulfonates, phenates, oxylates, carboxylates and mixtures thereof; (b) a friction modifier selected from the group consisting of fatty phosphites, fatty acid amides, borated fatty epoxides, fatty amines, glycerol esters and their borated derivatives, borated alkoxylated fatty amines, sulfurized olefins and mixtures thereof; (c) and an oil of lubricating viscosity, wherein such lubricants have excellent static and dynamic frictional characteristics. The lubricant fluids are particularly useful in reducing double detent and clashing during manual transmission shifting.
Claims17
A lubricant mixture suitable for a manual transmission fluid comprising:
- (a) a boronated overbased alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salt selected from the group consisting of sulfonates, phenates, oxylates, carboxylates and mixtures thereof;
- (b) a friction modifier selected from the group consisting of fatty phosphites, fatty acid amides, borated fatty epoxides, fatty amines, glycerol esters and their borated derivatives, borated alkoxylated fatty amines, sulfurized olefins and mixtures thereof;
- (c) and an oil of lubricating viscosity.
A concentrate containing about 95% to about 50% by weight of a mixture of (a), (b) and (c) wherein:
- (a) is a borated overbased alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal salt selected from the group consisting of sulfonates, phenates, oxylates, carboxylates and mixtures thereof;
- (b) is a friction modifier selected from the group consisting of fatty phosphites, fatty acid amides, borated fatty epoxides, fatty amines, glycerol esters and their borated derivatives, borated alkoxylated fatty amines, sulfurized olefins and mixtures thereof;
- and
- (c) from about 5% to about 50% by weight of an oil of lubricating viscosity.
A lubricant mixture suitable for a manual transmission fluid comprising:
- (a) a boronated overbased alkali metal salt selected from the group consisting of sulfonates, phenates, oxylates, carboxylates and mixtures thereof;
- (b) a friction modifier selected from the group consisting of fatty phosphites, fatty acid amines, borated fatty epoxides, fatty amines, glycerol esters and their borated derivatives, borated alkoxylated fatty amines, sulfurized olefins and mixtures thereof;
- (c) and 0.1 to 98% by weight of the composition of an oil of lubricating viscosity.
