Abstract
This invention relates to an aqueous, acidic composition useful to deposit a corrosion inhibiting and adhesion promoting coating on a metal substrate and a method for doing same. The composition has a pH of between about 2 and about 6 and comprises water-soluble or water-dispersible metal-chelating o-hydroxybenzylamine compound, wherein the amine moiety contains pendant ethanol or propanol moiety.
Claims9
An aqueous, acidic composition useful to deposit a corrosion inhibiting coating on a metal substrate, said composition (1) having a pH of between about 2 and about 4.5 and (2) consisting essentially of at least about dispersible metal-chelating compound selected from compounds having the general chemical formula:
- ##STR3## wherein R is selected from hydroxy ethyl and hydroxy propyl moieties which may be substituted with a non-interfering functionality and R' is H, alkyl, aryl or hydroxy alkyl.
