Abstract
The invention provides certain N-alkylalkylenediamine amides and their use as friction reducing additives in lubricants. They are also antioxidants and are useful in applications where additives are not corrosive to copper.
Claims18
A lubricant composition comprising a major proportion of a lubricating oil or grease therefrom, and a friction reducing or antioxidant amount of a product of the formula:
- ##STR10## wherein R.sup.1 is a C.sub.2 to C.sub.4 alkylene group, R.sup.2 must be a C.sub.12 to C.sub.30 hydrocarbyl group and R.sup.3 is (1) hydrogen, (2) a ##STR11## group wherein R.sup.4 is hydrogen or a C.sub.1 to C.sub.3 alkyl group or (3) a C.sub.1 to C.sub.3 aliphatic group at least one of the R.sup.3 groups being selected from (2).
A method for reducing fuel consumption in an internal combustion engine which comprises lubricating said engine with lubricant compositions containing between about 0.1 and about 10 percent by weight of a product of the formula:
- ##STR16## wherein R.sup.1 is a C.sub.2 to C.sub.4 alkylene group, R.sup.2 must be a C.sub.12 to C.sub.30 hydrocarbyl group and R.sup.3 is (1) hydrogen, (2) a ##STR17## group wherein R.sup.4 is hydrogen or a C.sub.1 to C.sub.3 alkyl group or (3) a C.sub.1 to C.sub.3 aliphatic group at least one of the R.sup.3 groups being selected from (2).
A lubricant composition comprising a major proportion of lubricating oil or grease therefrom, and a friction reducing or antioxidant amount of a mixture of compounds of the formulas:
- ##STR18##
A lubricant composition comprising a major proportion of a lubricating oil or grease therefrom, and a friction reducing or antioxidant amount of a mixture of compounds of the formulas:
