Abstract
The alkyl acrylates, e.g., methyl or ethyl acrylate, are improvedly dimerized, or codimerized with a conjugated diene, by contacting same with a catalytically effective amount of (a) at least one palladium source, (b) at least one organophosphorus(III) compound, and (c) at least one hydracid HY, the anion Y.sup.- of which does not coordinate with palladium ions.
Claims11
A catalytic compostion of matter, comprising:
- (a) at least one nonhalogenated palladium source;
- (b) at least one phosphorus (III) compound having the general formula (I) ##STR6## in which R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are independently an alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, alkoxy, cycloalkoxy or aryloxy radical, with the proviso that one of the radicals R.sub.1, R.sub.2 or R.sub.3 can be a monovalent radical having the general formula (II:
- ##STR7## in which m is an integer ranging from 1 to 4, R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 are independently an alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, alkoxy, cycloalkoxy or aryloxy radical;
- (c) at least one hydracid HY, wherein Y.sup.- is an anion selected from the group consisting of C.sub.n F.sub.2n+1 CO.sup.-.sub.2, C.sub.n F.sub.2n+1 SO.sup.-.sub.3, 1/2SO.sup.=.sub.4, ClO.sup.-.sub.4, PF.sup.-6, SbF.sup.-.sub.6, BF.sup.-4 and 1/2 SiF.sup.=.sub.6, in which n is an integer of from 1 to 4, the anion Y.sup.- of which does not coordinate with palladium ions.
