Abstract
Each ozonization loop (1) which includes a compressor (2), an ozonizer (3), and a heat exchanger (8) for cooling the oxygen-ozone mixture, is associated with three cylinders (4,5,6) filled with silica gel. Each cylinder operates in succession in a cocurrent adsorption, in countercurrent desorption by a substitution gas, and in scavenging by taking off a part of the flow circulating in the loop. The scavenging flow is recovered and combined with the substitution gas. The substitution gas may be in particular impure nitrogen supplyed by an air distillation apparatus producing the necessary oxygen.
Claims12
A process for producing ozone, comprising:
- providing first, second and third adsorbent-containing zones each having a first end and a second end and defining a co-current flow direction from said first end to said second end and a counter-current flow direction from said second end to said first end;
- partly ozonizing an oxygen stream in an ozonizer to form an ozone-containing effluent;
- co-currently circulating a major fraction of said ozone-containing effluent from said ozonizer through said first zone, whereby the ozone present in said effluent is trapped by adsorption;
- counter-currently circulating a carrier gas stream through said second zone, whereby ozone previously trapped therein is desorbed;
- co-currently circulating a minor fraction of said effluent through said third zone, whereby carrier gas present in said third zone is scavenged from said third zone thereby forming a third-zone effluent;
- and
- adding said third-zone effluent to said carrier gas stream which enters said second zone.
A process for producing ozone, comprising:
- providing first, second and third adsorbent-containing zones each having a first end and a second end and defining a co-current flow direction from said first end to said second end and a counter-current flow direction from said second end to said first end;
- partly ozonizing an oxygen stream in an ozonizer to fom an ozone-containing effluent;
- co-currently circulating a major fraction of said ozone-containing effluent from said ozonizer through said first zone, whereby the ozone present in said effluent is trapped by adsorption;
- counter-currently circulating a carrier gas stream through said second zone, whereby ozone previously trapped therein is desorbed;
- counter-currently circulating a minor fraction of an effluent from said first zone through said third zone, whereby carrier gas present in said third zone is scavenged from said third zone thereby forming a third-zone effluent;
- and
- adding said third-zone effluent to said carrier gas stream which issues from said second zone.
A process for producing ozone, comprising:
- producing an oxygen stream and a nitrogen-rich residual stream by distillation of an air stream;
- partly ozonizing said oxygen stream in an ozonizer to form an ozone-containing effluent;
- cooling said ozone-containing effluent by indirect heat exchange with at least one of said oxygen stream and said residual stream;
- circulating said cooled effluent through an adsorption zone, whereby the ozone contained in said effluent is trapped by adsorption;
- and
- thereafter circulating said residual stream through said adsorption zone whereby said trapped ozone is desorbed.
A process for producing ozone, comprising:
- providing a plurality of ozonization loops each comprising:
- an ozonizer;
- first and second adsorption zones each having a first end and a second end and defining a co-current flow direction from said first end to said second end and a counter-current flow direction from said second end to said first end;
- and performing the following cycle:
- partly ozonizing an oxygen stream in each said ozonizer to form an ozone-containing effluent;
- co-currently circulating said ozone-containing effluent from said ozonizer through each said first zone, whereby the ozone present in said effluent is trapped by adsorption;
- counter-currently circulating a carrier gas stream through each but one said second zone, whereby ozone previously trapped therein is desorbed;
- and
- circulating through said one second zone an oxygen stream taken from the loop containing said one second zone
- wherein carrier gas present in said one second zone is scavenged.
