Abstract
A process for preparing cyclohexanonecarboxylic acid compounds by catalytically hydrogenating the corresponding hydroxybenzoic acid compounds in a secondary alcohol or tertiary alcohol solvent.

A process for preparing cyclohexanonecarboxylic acid compounds of the formula:
- ##STR5## wherein R is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms, which comprises catalytically hydrogenating a hydroxybenzoic acid compound of the formula:
- ##STR6## wherein R is as defined in formula (I), in a tertiary alcohol solvent or a secondary alcohol solvent other than a cyclohexanolcarboxylic acid compound of the formula:
- ##STR7## wherein R is as defined in formula (I).
