Abstract
Water-in-oil emulsions of water-soluble polymers, i.e. polyacrylamides, which are subject to freeze-thaw degradation are stabilized against repeated freeze-thaw cycles by incorporating specific substituted succinic anhydrides.
Claims15
A freeze-thaw stabilized water-in-oil emulsion of a water-soluble polymer prepared by a polymerization reaction having less than about 50 percent by weight of the water-soluble polymer and a freeze-thaw stabilizing amount of a succinic anhydride compound of the formula:
- ##STR2## wherein R is a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl or alkenyl group having about 5 to about 30 carbon atoms and wherein the substituents are selected from aryl and alkyl substituted aryl groups.
