Abstract
A method of preparing low chloride strong-base anion exchange resin is disclosed. The method involves a two-step amination of the haloalkylated copolymer beads at temperatures below 60.degree. C.
Claims17
A process for preparing a strong-base anion exchange resin containing less than about 0.5 equivalent percent of active ionic chloride based on active sites of the resin, which comprises providing crosslinked polymer beads of a vinyl acrylic or vinyl aromatic monomer which have been haloalkylated;
- functionalizing the haloalkylated polymer beads with a tertiary amine containing no substantial amount of primary or secondary amine;
- further functionalizing the functionalized crosslinked polymer bead with a primary or secondary amine of a low molecular weight;
- and contacting the functionalized crosslinked polymer bead with at least one ionic agent exchangeable with chloride ions.
