Abstract
Acrylates or methacrylates I ##STR1## (A and B=C.sub.2 -C.sub.5 -alkylene, R.sup.1 =H, CH.sub.3) are prepared by reacting an acrylate or methacrylate II ##STR2## (R.sup.2 =C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl) with a heterocycle III ##STR3## in the presence of titanium alcoholates chelate compounds of the metals titanium, zirconium, iron and zinc with 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds.

A process for preparing an acrylate or methacrylate of the formula I ##STR9## where R.sup.1 is hydrogen or methyl and A and B are each branched or unbranched alkylene of 2 to 5 carbon atoms, which comprises reacting an acrylate or methacrylate of the formula II ##STR10## where R.sup.2 is alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms with a heterocycle of the formula III ##STR11## in the presence of a titanium alcoholate or a chelate compound of one of the metals titanium, zirconium, iron or zinc with a 1,3-dicarbonyl compound.
