Abstract
Our invention pertains to various new compositions, methods for using such compositions and products treated with such compositions. Our new compositions include, among other things, certain antimicrobial agents solubilized with certain disubstituted aryl compounds.
Claims19
An antimicrobial composition for controlling bacteria and fungi comprising in combination:
- (a) a metal chelate of 8-hydroxy quinoline in which the metal is selected from the group consisting of copper, mercury, cadmium, nickel, tin, aluminum and zinc,
- (b) an alkyl benzene sulfonic acid wherein the alkyl group is C.sub.6 to C.sub.18, said metal chelate being solubilized by said sulfonic acid,
A method for controlling the growth of microorganisms which comprises applying to the locus of said microorganisms an antimicrobially effective amount of a composition comprising:
- (a) a metal chelate of 8-hydroxy quinoline in which the metal is selected from the group consisting of copper, mercury, cadmium, nickel, tin, aluminum and zinc,
- (b) an alkyl benzene sulfonic acid wherein the alkyl group is C.sub.6 to C.sub.18, said metal chelate being solubilized by said sulfonic acid,
