The disclosed invention concerns a unique process for the isomerization of a double bond for movement of same from the alpha position to an interior position in an olefinic hydrocarbon molecule. This non-skeletal isomerization process is conducted in the presence of a select aluminosilicate having 8 and 10 member ring channels of a specific and certain size sufficient to permit said double bond isomerization but restrictive to prevent aromatization or alkylation of the double bond olefin molecule within the channels of the aluminosilicate. The instant double bond isomerization process is an key link in the preparation of higher olefins from ethylene utilizing oligomerization, isomerization and disproportionation as chemical mechanisms to convert C.sub.2 olefins, in a maximum quantity, to C.sub.12 to C.sub.18 higher alpha olefins.
In a process for the double bond isomerization of an olefin molecule, at isomerization conditions, to move said double bond from an alpha position in said molecule to an interior position in said molecule by contact of said molecule with an aluminosilicate catalyst to isomerize said double bond, the improvement which comprises use as said catalyst of an aluminosilicate having 8 and 10 member ring channels having a size defined as being sufficient to permit said double bond issomerization of said olefin in said channels and a size restrictive to prohibit aromatization or alkylation of said olefin molecule within said channels.
The process of claim 8 wherein said metal selected from Group VIII of the Periodic Table is palladium.
The process of claim 9 wherein said palladium is present in an amount of from 0.01% to about 10% on the basis of the total weight of the catalyst.
In a process for the increased production of higher olefins having alpha double bonds from ethylene which comprises:
