Abstract

This disclosure describes novel 4-oxy-2-substituted-cyclopent-2-en-1-ones useful as intermediates for the preparation of homo and nor prostaglandins of the E.sub.2, E.sub.3 and F series.

A compound of the formula ##STR8## wherein R.sub.1 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl R is selected from the group consisting of ##STR9## wherein J is tri-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -lower alkyl silyl, and p is 2-4.
