Abstract
Gusseted bags are provided with extruded reclosable plastic profile stirps along free upper end portions of face walls flanking a bag mouth, the fastener strips being free to separate throughout their lengths when opening the bag mouth to the full extent permitted by opposite side expanding gussets of the bag so that free access into the bag such as for inserting or removing contents such as a tray loaded with products such as cookies, or the like, or for pouring contents therefrom selectively between either of the separated ends of the upper end portions of the face walls and the cooresponding ends of the fastener strips is permitted. The fastener strips may have interlockable wraparound extensions. A method of making the bags is disclosed.
Claims23
A bag having opposite face wall panels connected by a closed bottom, opposite side expanding gussets, and a top opening providing a bag mouth, comprising:
- upper free end portions of said face wall panels flanking said bag mouth;
- the entire lengths of said free end portions across the width if the bag being separable from a mouth closing face-to-face contiguity into a bag mouth open separation to the full expansion of said gussets;
- a fastener comprising complementary extruded reclosable plastic profile strips on said free end portions for holding said free end portions closed in said bag mouth closed contiguity and being separable by being pulled apart throughout the length of the strips for separating said free end portions into bag mouth open relation;
- said strips of the fastener when separated permitting said entire lengths of said end portions to separate to the full extent of the gusset expansion and then leaving the bag mouth in line with said gussets free for access into the bag such as for loading or removing through said open mouth contents requiring substantially the full mouth opening;
- each of said strips having a like plurality of generally arrowhead shaped profiles which are in such complementary opposed relation that when the profiles are interlocked the upper ends of the gussets are caused to skew and the upper portion of one of the bag face walls is caused to be offset upwardly relative to the opposite bag face wall upper portion, whereby to facilitate grasping for separable pulling apart of said upper end portions and said fastener strips for opening the bag.
A method of making a bag having opposite face wall panels connected by a closed bottom, opposite side expanding gussets, and a top opening providing a bag mouth, comprising:
- providing upper free end portions of said face wall panels flanking said bag mouth, and the entire lengths of said free end portions across the width of the bag being separable from a mouth closing face-to-face contiguity into a bag mouth open separation up to the full exapansion of said gussets;
- providing a fastener comprising complementary extruded reclosable plastic profile strips on said free end portions for holding said free end portions closed in said bag mouth closed contiguity and being separable by being pulled apart throughout the length of the strips for separating said free end portions into bag mouth open relation;
- separating said strips of the fastener and the entire lengths of said end portions to the full extend of the gusset expansion and leaving the bag mouth in line with said gussets free for access into the bag such as for loading or removing through said open mouth contents requiring substantially the full mouth opening;
- and providing each of said strips with a like plurality of generally arrowhead shaped profiles which are in such complementary opposed relation that when the profiles are interlocked the upper ends of the gussets are caused to skew and the upper portion of one of the bag face walls is caused top be offset upwardly relative to the opposite bag face wall upper portion, whereby to facilitate grasping for separable pulling apart of said upper end portions and said fastener strips for opening the bag.
A bag having opposite face wall panels connected by a closed bottom, opposite side expanding gussets, and a top opening providing a bag mouth, comprising:
- upper free end portions of said face wall panels flanking said bag mouth;
- the entire lengths of said free end portions across the width of the bag being separable from a mouth closing face-to-face contiguity into a bag mouth open separation to the full expansion of said gussets;
- a fastener comprising complementary extruded reclosable plastic profile strips on said free end portions for holding said free end portions closed in said bag mouth closed contiguity and being separable throughout the lengths of the strips for separating said free end portions into bag mouth open relation;
- said strips of the fastener when separated permitting said entire lengths of said end portions to separate to the full extent of the gusset expansion and then leaving the bag mouth in line with said gussets free for access into the bag such as for loading or removing through said open mouth contents requiring substantially the full mouth opening;
- and said strips having respective and oppositely extending warparound extensions which are adapted to be wrapped in closure retaining relation around the mouth closing free end portions, and which will permit the mouth closing free end portions to be rolled down onto one of said face walls and the wraparound extensions then being secured together to hold the rolled down free end portions.
A method of making a bag having opposite face wall panels connected by a closed bottom, opposite side expanding gussets, and a top opening providing a bag mouth, comprising:
- providing upper free end portions of said face wall panels flanking said bag mouth, and the entire lengths of said free end portions across the width of the bag being separable from a mouth closing face-to-face contiguity into a bag mouth open separation up to the full expansion of said gussets;
- providing a fastener comprising complementary extruded reclosable plastic profile strips and securing said plastic profile strips on said free end portions for holding said free end portions closed in said bag mouth closed contiguity and being separable throughout the length of the strips for separating said free end portions into bag mouth open relation;
- separating said strips of the fastener and the entire length of said end portions to the full extent of the gusset expansion and leaving the bag mouth in line with said gussets free for access into the bag such as for loading or removing through said open mouth contents requiring substantially the full mouth opening;
- and providing said profile strips with respective, and oppositely extending, wraparound extensions which are adapted to be wrapped in enclosure retaining relation around the mouth closing free end portions of said face wall panels.
A bag having opposite face wall panels connected by a closed bottom, opposite side expanding gussets, and a top opening providing a bag mouth, comprising;
- upper ends of said face wall panels and upper ends of said gussets being at substantially a common elevation;
- the entire length of said upper free edges of said wall panels across the width of the bag being separable from a mouth closing face-to-face contiguity into a bag mouth open separation up to the full expansion of said gussets;
- a fastener comprising complementary extruded reclosable plastic profile strips having complementary reclosable interlocking profiles and upwardly and downwardly extending base flanges;
- said downwardly extending base flanges being secured to upper portions of outside surfaces of said wall panels and extending downwardly substantially below the upper edges of said wall panels and gussets but being free from said gussets so that the upper edges of the wall panels can be completely separated throughout the length of the strips to open the bag mouth to the full extent of the expansion of said gussets;
- and the upwardly extending base flanges of said strips projecting substantially above said upper edges of the bag wall panels and of the gussets and serving as pull flanges to facilitate opening the bag mouth.
