Abstract
There are described azo compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein K is an optionally quaternized basic group, X is the radical COOR, in which R is an alkyl group or a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl group, or X is the radical CONHR', in which R' is an alkyl group or a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl group; and wherein the benzene rings B and/or D can be further substituted; and the use thereof as dyes for the dyeing of textile materials, and particularly for the dyeing of paper of all types, especially bleached, lignin-free, unsized paper.

An azo compound of the formula ##STR36## wherein K is ##STR37## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 independently are C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 hydroxyalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 cyanoalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 carbamoylalkyl or
- R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 together with the nitrogen to which they are attached form pyrrolidyl, morpholinyl or piperidyl,
- R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 represent hydrogen, or
- R.sub.1 together with R.sub.3 represents --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 -- and
- R.sub.2 together with R.sub.4 represents --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2,
- R.sub.5 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 hydroxyalkyl,
- R.sub.6 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 hydroxyalkyl, or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy,
- R.sub.7 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 hydroxyalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 carbamoylalkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 aminoalkyl, or
- R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 together with the nitrogen to which they are attached form pyrrolidinyl, morpholinyl or piperidinyl, or
- R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 and R.sub.7 together with the nitrogen to which they are attached form pyridinium, methylpyridinium, hydroxypyridinium, aminopyridinium, carboxypyridinium, cyanopyridinium, ##STR38## and A.sup..crclbar. is an anion, X is --COOR or --CONHR' wherein R is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, phenyl or phenyl substituted by C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, phenoxy or halogen, and R' is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, phenyl or phenyl substituted by at least one C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, phenoxy, halogen, NO.sub.2, CN, SO.sub.2 NH.sub.2, --N.dbd.N--phenyl, --NHCOCH.sub.3, benzothiazolyl group, or by the group ##STR39## wherein Y is O, S, NH, NHCO or NHCONH.sub.2 and K is as defined above, and wherein the benzene rings B and D are unsubstituted or at least one of said rings is substituted by C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, SO.sub.2 NH.sub.2, NO.sub.2, OH or phenyl.
