The purification of hTNF by ion exchange chromatography is described.

A process for isolating hTNF from a mixture of hTNF and N-terminal methionine-containing hTNF comprising subjecting said mixture to cation exchange chromatography over a cation exchanger containing sulfoaryl or sulfoalkyl groups.
