Abstract
A water insoluble crosslinked poly .beta.-alanine is prepared by crosslinking poly .beta.-alanine with a crosslinking agent selected from the group consisting of formaldehyde and a dialdehyde or by irradiation of said poly .beta.-alanine with Co.sup.60.
Claims4
A cosmetic or pharmaceutical composition comprising a water-insoluble crosslinked poly .beta.-alanine in the form of spheres having a diameter ranging from 2 to 500 microns and being prepared by crosslinking poly .beta.-alanine having the formula ##STR3## wherein R represents hydrogen or a branching of the formula, ##STR4## the percentage of terminal primary amide units (b) being between 5 and 35 percent relative to the total amide units of the polymer, said crosslinking being carried out with a crosslinking agent selected from the group consisting of glutaraldehyde and formaldehyde in an aqueous solution of said poly .beta.-alanine at an acid pH.
