Abstract
A novel material is disclosed which is the reaction product of acrylic acid and a novoloid fiber. The material has excellent ablative and flame resistant properties.

A fibrous composition of matter comprising the reaction product of acrylic acid and a novoloid fiber having methylol groups.
In an ablative heat shield for a spacecraft the improvement wherein the ablative heat shield is comprised of a fibrous reaction product of acrylic acid and a novoloid fiber having methylol groups.
