Abstract
In one embodiment this invention provides a nonlinear optical medium which consists of a transparent solid substrate coated with a Langmuir-Blodgett deposition of at least one molecular monolayer of uniaxial aligned charge asymmetric quinodimethane molecules, such as 7,7-bis(hexadecylamino)-8,8-dicyanoquinodimethane: ##STR1##
Claims6
A process for preparing a nonlinear optical medium which comprises coating a transparent solid substrate surface by Langmuir-Blodgett deposition technique with at least one monomolecular layer of uniaxial aligned quinodimethane molecules corresponding to the formula:
- ##STR16## where R' is a substituent selected from hydrogen and aliphatic, alicyclic and aromatic groups containing between about 6-30 carbon atoms;
- n is an integer with a value between about 0-3;
- and at least one of the R' substituents is an electron-donating group.
A process for preparing a nonlinear optical medium which comprises coating a transparent solid substrate surface by Langmuir-Blodgett deposition technique with at least one monomolecular layer of uniaxial aligned quinodimethane molecules corresponding to the formula:
- ##STR17## where R is a substituent selected from aliphatic, alicyclic and aromatic groups containing between about 6-30 carbon atoms, and R.sup.1 is hydrogen or a R substituent.
