Abstract
A bis(o-diamine) is reacted with a bis(benziloxy)-2,2'-bis(arylethynyl)biphenyl to provide a qunioxaline polymer having pendant phenylethynyl groups. These polymers can be cured to provide thermally stable polymer compositions.
Claims8
A quinoxaline polymer consisting essentially of repeating units of the general formula:
- ##STR5## wherein X is a single bond, or X is --O--, --S-- or --SO.sub.2 --, Ar is --C.sub.6 H.sub.5, --C.sub.6 H.sub.4 --C.sub.6 H.sub.5, --C.sub.6 H.sub.4 Br, --C.sub.6 H.sub.4 CH.sub.3, or --C.sub.6 H.sub.4 C.sub.2 H.sub.5, and Ph is --C.sub.6 H.sub.5.
A method for synthesizing a quinoxaline polymer having repeating units of the general formula:
- ##STR6## wherein X is a single bond, or X is --O--, --S-- or --SO.sub.2 --, Ar is --C.sub.6 H.sub.5, --C.sub.6 H.sub.4 --C.sub.6 H.sub.5, --C.sub.6 H.sub.4 Br, --C.sub.6 H.sub.4 CH.sub.3, or --C.sub.6 H.sub.4 C.sub.2 H.sub.5, and Ph is --C.sub.6 H.sub.5, which comprises combining stoichiometric quantities of a bis(benziloxy)2,2'-bis(arylethynyl)biphenyl with a bis(o-diamine) in an aprotic solvent under an inert atmosphere at a concentration of about 5 to 30 wt/vol percent, stirring the mixture for about 1 to 96 hours at a temperature in the range of about ambient to 100.degree. C., and separating the resulting polymeric product.
