Abstract
Methods and compositions are provided for simultaneous reduction of NO.sub.x and SO.sub.x in combustion effluents and process gas streams, employing a sorbent material of calcium or dolomitic lime hydrated with aqueous carboxamides, optionally with carbinol reductants, in amounts sufficient to reduce the NO.sub.x and SO.sub.x concentrations from the effluents. The sorbent material may be introduced as dry powders or wet hydrates in effluent streams at temperatures ranging from 400.degree. to 2400.degree. F.
Claims13
A method for simultaneously reducing sulfur and nitrogen oxides from a gaseous oxygen containing stream at a temperature of at least about 400.degree. F., said method comprising:
- introducing into said stream at a predetermined ratio as a sorbent for the sulfur and nitrogen oxides, a composition comprising hydrated lime and a carboxamide in an amount sufficient to reduce the sulfur and nitrogen oxides in said effluent stream, wherein said composition is prepared by hydrating lime in an aqueous medium containing said carboxamide and removing uncomplexed water to provide dry particles, and wherein said predetermined ratio is in an amount to provide a calcium to sulfur molar ratio of about 0.1 to 10 and carboxamide amino nitrogen to NO.sub.x equivalent ratio in the range of about 0.2 to 20.
A method for simultaneously reducing sulfur and nitrogen oxides from a gaseous oxygen containing stream at a temperature of at least about 1300.degree. F. and having a volume percent oxygen of at least about 0.1, said method comprising:
- introducing into said stream a sorbent composition comprising hydrated lime and carbonic acid amide, wherein said hydrated lime is formed by hydrating lime with an aqueous medium containing said carbonic acid amide, and removing uncomplexed water to provide dry particles of a size in the range of about 20 to 250 microns, in an amount to provide a calcium to sulfur molar ratio of about 0.1 to 10 and carbonic acid amide amino nitrogen to NO.sub.x equivalent ratio in the range of about 0.2 to 20.
A method for simultaneously reducing sulfur and nitrogen oxides from a gaseous oxygen containing stream at a temperature of at least about 1300.degree. F. and having at least about 0.1 volume percent oxygen, said method comprising:
- introducing into the effluent stream from a boiler particles of a size in the range of about 0.5 to 20.mu. of a sorbent composition comprising hydrated lime or dolomitic lime and urea formed by hydrating quicklime or dolomitic lime in an aqueous medium containing said urea at an elevated temperature in the range of about 33.degree. to 270.degree. F., whereby said quicklime or dolomitic lime is substantially completely hydrated, and substantially removing uncomplexed water to provide dry particles, wherein the atomic ratio of calcium to sulfur as sulfur dioxide in said stream is from about 0.1 to 10 and the equivalent ratio of urea amino nitrogen to NO.sub.x is about 0.2 to 20.
