Abstract
Alkylpyrimidines are dealkylated to the corresponding pyrimidines by contacting with an oxidation catalyst containing one or more oxides of at least one of the elements of the group consisting of Bi, Mo and V in the presence of water and oxygen in the gas phase at a temperature of 300.degree.-450.degree. C.
Claims7
Process for preparing pyrimidine, which comprises contacting an alkyl pyrimidine, having an alkyl substituent, of from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, at the 2 and/or 4 (6) position, in the gas phase at a temperature of 300.degree.-450.degree. C. with an oxidation catalyst containing one or more oxides of at least one of the elements of the group consisting of Bi, Mo and V and in the presence of water and of a gas containing molecular oxygen and recovering pyrimidine from the resulting reaction mixture.
