Abstract
Novel compounds, pharmaceutical compositions and a method of inhibiting the 5-lipoxygenase products in an animal in need thereof which comprises administering an effective, 5-lipoxygenase pathway inhibiting amount of a 2,2'-[1,2-ethanediylbis-(thio)]-bis-1H-imidazole or 2,2'-[(1,3-propan-2-onediylbis-(thio)]bis-1H-imidazole, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, to such animal.
Claims16
A compound of the formula ##STR7## wherein:
- A is CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 or CH.sub.2 C (O)CH.sub.2 ;
- and
- R.sup.11 and R.sup.111 are pyridyl or one is pyridyl and the other is monosubstituted phenyl wherein said substituent is selected from halo;
- or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
A pharmaceutical composition comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or diluent and an effective, non-toxic 5-lipoxygenase pathway inhibiting amount of a compound of the formula ##STR8## wherein:
- A is CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 or CH.sub.2 C(O)CH.sub.2 ;
- and
- R.sup.11 and R.sup.111 are pyridyl or one of R.sup.11 and R.sup.111 is pyridyl and the other is monosubstituted phenyl wherein said substituent is selected from halo;
- or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
A method of treating rheumatoid arthritis in an animal in need thereof which comprises administering to such animal an effective, non-toxic 5-lipoxygenase pathway inhibiting amount of a compound of the formula ##STR9## wherein:
- A is CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 or CH.sub.2 C(O)CH.sub.2 ;
- and
- R.sup.11 and R.sup.111 are pyridyl or one of R and R.sup.1 is pyridyl and the other is monosubstituted phenyl wherein said substituent is selected from halo;
- or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
