Abstract
Tertiary phosphine oxides, phosphine sulfides and/or phosphine dihalides are reduced to tertiary phosphines by reaction with a hydrocarbon in the presence of carbon at elevated temperatures.
Claims18
A process for the reduction of teriary phosphine oxides, phosphine sulfides and/or phosphine dihalides to form the corresponding tertiary phosphines, which process comprises:
- reacting an organic phosphorus compound of the formula ##STR3## where each radical X is halogen or the two radicals X taken together represent an oxo or thio group and R is an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic group, with a hydrocarbon in the presence of carbon at a temperature of from 150.degree. to 500.degree. C.
