Polymeric amine conditioning additives for hair care products

A hair conditioning product which is a member selected from the group consisting of shampoos, conditioners, creme rinses, and setting gels and containing an effective amount of a polymer for imparting good conditioning properties to hair made from ethylenically unsaturated addition polymerizable monomers and containing units of a member selected from the group consisting of a pendant primary amino group of the following structure:

• ##STR13## where:
• =an organic polymer chain;
• R=H, alkyl, aryl, --COOH, --COOR" or --CONH.sub.2, and
• R"--methyl, ethyl or other lower alkyl;
• an ammonium salt of said amine group of the following structure:
• ##STR14## where:
• =an organic polymer chain,
• R=H, alkyl, aryl, --COOH, --COOR" or --CONH.sub.2, and
• R"=methyl, ethyl or other lower alkyl, and
• .sup.- X=halide, hydroxide, methyl sulfate, or similar negatively charged group;
• or admixtures of the amino group and salt.
