Modified succinimides (III)

A fuel composition comprising a hydrocarbon boiling in the gasoline range and from 10 to 10,000 parts per million of a compound of the formula:

• ##STR23## wherein a is an integer from 1 to 6;
• R is alkenyl or alkyl of from 10 to 300 carbon atoms;
• R.sub.2 is alkylene of from 2 to 10 carbon atoms;
• R.sub.8 is hydrogen, alkyl of from 1 to 6 carbon atoms and ##STR24## wherein W is oxygen or sulfur;
• X is oxygen, sulfur, or >NR.sub.5 wherein R.sub.5 is hydrogen or alkyl of from 1 to 20 carbon atoms;
• and R.sub.4 is an alkylene group of from 2 to 5 carbon atoms or an alkylene group of from 2 to 5 carbon atoms substituted with from 1 to 3 alkyl groups of from 1 to 2 carbon atoms each with the proviso that X and W are not both oxygen;
• T is --NHR.sub.8 or ##STR25## wherein R.sub.8 and R are as defined above with the further proviso that the compound contains at least one R.sub.8 which is ##STR26##

A fuel concentrate comprising 30 to 90 weight percent of an inert stable oleophilic organic solvent and 10 to 70 weight percent of a compound of the formula ##STR28## wherein a is an integer from 1 to 6;

• R is alkenyl or alkyl of from 10 to 300 carbon atoms;
• R.sub.2 is alkylene of from 2 to 10 carbon atoms;
• R.sub.8 is hydrogen, alkyl of from 1 to 6 carbon atoms and ##STR29## wherein W is oxygen or sulfur;
• X is oxygen, sulfur, or >NR.sub.5 wherein R.sub.5 is hydrogen or alkyl of from 1 to 20 carbon atoms;
• and R.sub.4 is an alkylene group of from 2 to 5 carbon atoms or an alkylene group of from 2 to 5 carbon atoms substituted with from 1 to 3 alkyl groups of from 1 to 2 carbon atoms each with the proviso that X and W are not both oxygen;
• T is --NHR.sub.8 or ##STR30## wherein R.sub.8 and R are as defined above with the further proviso that the compound contain at least one R.sub.8 which is ##STR31##
