Abstract
Highly specific catalyst compositions are provided, comprising zeolites containing a photoassisting material, which is capable of catalyzing photoassisted heterogenous catalytic reactions within the zeolite structure. The photoassisting material can be sorbed by the zeolite or incorporated directly within the zeolitic framework.

A photoassisted heterogenous catalytic composition comprising a zeolite having an organic dye sensitizer photoassisting species within its structure.
A zeolite catalyst selected from the group consisting of ZSM-5, ZSM-11, ZSM-5/ZSM-11 intermediate, ZSM-23, ZSM-35, ZSM-38 and ZSM-48 which has been modified for use in photoassisted heterogenous catalytic reactions by including an organic dye sensitizer photoassisting species within the zeolite whereby the resulting catalyst composite is capable of catalyzing highly specific photochemical reactions based on the shape and sorption characteristics of the zeolite structure.
