A stabilized coal slurry comprising pulverized and purified coal, water and a dispersing agent, said dispersing agent by selective absorption having produced different charging of particles of coal and particles of other substances to obtain purified coal and maintain the stability of the slurry.
A method for preparing from a carbonaceous starting material which, in addition to coal, also includes impurities, a stabilized coal slurry containing the coal in pulverized purified form, as well as water and a dispersing agent, wherein the carbonaceous starting material is mixed with water, pulverized and, in connection with or subsequent to pulverization, supplied with a dispersing agent by selective adsorption produces different charging of coal particles and impurity particles, and wherein this different charging is utilized in order to stabilize the coal slurry.
A stabilized coal slurry comprising pulverized and purified coal, water, and a dispersing agent, wherein:
- (a) said dispersing agent produces different charging of particles of coal and particles of other substances, to obtain purified coal and maintain the stability of the slurry;
- and
- (b) from about 5 to about 36 weight percent (by weight of dry coal) of the coal particles in said slurry are of colloidal size, being less than 3 microns in size.
A stabilized coal slurry comprising pulverized and purified coal, water, and a dispersing agent, wherein:
- (a) said dispersing agent produces different charging of particles of coal and particles of other substances, to obtain purified coal and maintain the stability of the slurry;
- and
- (b) said coal-water slurry is comprised of at least 60 weight percent of coal.
A stabilized coal slurry comprising pulverized and purified coal, water, and a dispersing agent, wherein:
- (a) said dispersing agent produces different charging of particles of coal and particles of other substances, to obtain purified coal and maintain the stability of the slurry;
- and
- (b) said coal-water slurry has a Brookfield viscosity at 60 revolutions per minute of less than 4000 centipoise.
A stabilized coal slurry comprising pulverized and purified coal, water, and a dispersing agent, wherein:
- (a) said dispersing agent produces different charging of particles of coal and particles of other substances, to obtain purified coal and maintain the stability of the slurry;
- and
- (b) said particles of coal have particles sizes in the range of 1180 microns to 0.05 microns.
A stabilized coal slurry comprising pulverized and purified coal, water, and a dispersing agent, wherein:
- (a) said dispersing agent produces different charging of particles of coal and particles of other substances, to obtain purified coal and maintain the stability of the slurry;
- and
- (b) said coal-water slurry is comprised of from about 0.05 to about 4.0 weight percent (by weight of dry coal) of water-soluble dispersing agent which, when dissolved in water, provides electrically charged ions.
