Abstract
An electrical adapter assembly for enabling use of a fluorescent lamp in connection with an incandescent lighting fixture comprises a hollow and cylindrical housing, an Edison-type base extending from one end of the housing and a cover enclosing the end of the housing opposing the base. A toroidal ballast is located within the housing and is capable of receiving portions of the fluorescent lamp within hollow central portions of the ballast to enhance spacial efficiency. The base is either affixed to the housing, or alternatively, is rotatingly associated with the housing to provide a security feature.
Claims24
A fluorescent lamp adapter assembly for an incandescent lighting fixture means, comprising:
- (a) a hollow housing;
- (b) a base member associated with and extending from an end of the housing, and including means for establishing electrical interconnection with the incandescent lighting fixture means;
- (c) a cover member associated with and extending from another end of the housing, and including means for establishing electrical interconnection with the fluorescent lamp and retaining means adapted to retain the fluorescent lamp within the adapter assembly;
- and
- (d) an essentially toroidally shaped ballast means located within the housing and between the base member and cover member, and electrically associated in series between the electrical interconnection establishing means of the base and cover members, thereby permitting use of a fluorescent lamp in place of an incandescent light source.
A fluorescent lamp adapter assembly for an incandescent lighting fixture means, comprising:
- (a) a hollow housing;
- (b) a base member associated with an extending from an end of said housing, and including at least two electrical contact means for establishing electrical interconnection with the incandescent lighting fixture means;
- (c) a cover member associated with and extending from another end of said housing, and including at least two electrical contact means for establishing electrical interconnection with a fluorescent lamp and retaining means adapted to retain the fluorescent lamp within the adapter assembly;
- and
- (d) an essentially toroidally shaped ballast means located within the housing and between the base member and the cover member, and electrically associated in series between one electrical contact means of said base member and one electrical contact means of said cover member, thereby permitting use of a fluorescent lamp in place of an incandescent light source.
A fluorescent lamp holder assembly for use with a lighting fixture operating on line voltage and a fluorescent lamp assembly which operates on line voltage and includes a base and a starter housing depending below said base, said holder assembly comprising:
- (a) a hollow housing having a generally closed first end with at least two means extending therefrom for establishing electrical interconnection with the lighting fixture;
- (b) fluorescent lamp receiving means associated with the other end of said housing and secured thereto, said fluorescent lamp receiving means including at least two electrical contact means for establishing electrical interconnection with the fluorescent lamp and defining an opening for receiving therethrough said starter housing and;
- (c) an essentially toroidal ballast means located within the housing and between the ends thereof so that the starter housing extends into the interior of the cylindrical area defined by said ballast means, said ballast means being electrically associated in series between one electrical interconnection means of said first end and one electrical contact means.
A fluorescent lamp holder assembly for use with a lighting fixture means and a fluorescent lamp assembly, which incorporates a starter housing, operating on line voltage, comprising:
- (a) a hollow housing;
- (b) a base member associated with and extending from an end of said housing, and including at least two means for establishing electrical interconnection with the lighting fixture means;
- (c) a cover member associated with and extending from another end of said housing, said cover member defining a cavity for receiving the fluorescent lamp base and including at least two electrical contact means depending from said cavity for establishing electrical interconnection with a fluorescent lamp;
- and
- (d) an essentially toroidal ballast means located within the housing between the base member and the cover member so that the two electrical contact means depending from said cover member cavity extend into the interior of the cylinder defined by said ballast means and the starter housing extends into the cylindrical area defined by said ballast means, said ballast means being electrically associated in series between one electrical interconnection means of said base member and one electrical contact means of said cover member.
A fluorescent lamp holder assembly for use with a fluorescent lamp assembly which incorporates a starter housing and a lighting fixture operating on line voltage, said holder assembly comprising:
- (a) a hollow housing having a generally closed first end with at least two means extending therefrom for establishing electrical interconnection with the lighting fixture;
- (b) fluorescent lamp receiving means associated with the other end of said housing and secured thereto, said fluorescent lamp receiving means defining a cavity for receiving a fluorescent lamp base therethrough and including at least two electrical contact means depending from said cavity for establishing electrical interconnection with the fluorescent lamp assembly;
- and
- (c) an essentially toroidal ballast means located within the housing and between the ends thereof so that the starter housing extends into the interior of the cylindrical area defined by said ballast means, said ballast means being electrically associated in series between one electrical interconnection means of said first end and one electrical contact means of said cavity.
