S-(Carbamoyl-phenylselenyl) derivatives of glutathione and of .alpha.-aminomercaptocarboxylic acids according to the general formula (I) ##STR7## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4, represent members selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halogen, C.sub.1-4 -alkyl, C.sub.1-4 -alkoxy, trifluoromethyl, nitro, cyano, hydroxy, carboxy and C.sub.1-4 -alkoxycarbonyl,

• n is zero or an integer from 1 to 4 and
• A is a member selected from the group consisting of the glutathione radical, the .alpha.-amino acid radicals, the .alpha.-amino acid radicals wherein the carboxylic group and the amino group are unsubstituted the .alpha.-amino acid radicals wherein the carboxylic group is esterified with a C.sub.1-3 -alcohol and the amino group is unsubstituted, the .alpha.-amino acid radicals wherein the amino group is acylated and the carboxylic group is unsubstituted, and the .alpha.-amino acid radicals wherein both the carboxylic group is esterified with a C.sub.1-3 -alcohol and the amino group is acylate
