Abstract
Synthesis gas comprising carbon monoxide and hydrogen is converted to a liquid hydrocarbon by contacting the synthesis gas under conversion conditions with a supported cobalt-ruthenium catalyst in which the cobalt to ruthenium molar ratio is greater than about 200:1. The catalyst is preferably prepared by using a non-aqueous impregnation solution and using an activation procedure involving reduction, oxidation and reduction.
Claims18
A process for the conversion of synthesis gas to a product containing liquid hydrocarbons, which comprises contacting a synthesis gas comprising hydrogen and carbon monoxide with an alumina supported cobalt-ruthenium catalyst containing from about 5 to about 30 weight percent cobalt and having a molar ratio of cobalt to ruthenium greater than about 200:1 and up to about 3400:1 under synthesis conversion conditions, said catalyst being prepared by contacting alumina with a non-aqueous, organic impregnation solution of a cobalt salt and a ruthenium salt.
A process for the conversion of synthesis gas to a product containing liquid hydrocarbons, which comprises contacting a synthesis gas comprising hydrogen and carbon monoxide with an alumina supported cobalt-ruthenium catalyst containing from about 5 to about 30 weight percent cobalt and having a molar ratio of cobalt to ruthenium greater than about 250:1 and up to about 1000:1 under synthesis conversion conditions, said catalyst being prepared by contacting an alumina support with a non-aqueous, organic impregnation solution of a cobalt salt and a ruthenium salt, said aluminum support comprising extruded alumina in the form of gamma-alumina, eta-alumina or a mixture thereof.
