Abstract
Adsorbent for removing a harmful substance to be removed from body fluid such as blood or plasma composed of a porous hard gel on which a ligand having an affinity for the harmful substance is immobilized. The adsorbent is suitable for selective removal of harmful substances such as VLDL, LDL, harmful proteins, viruses and harmful cells, in extracorporeal circulation treatment.
Claims15
An adsorbent for removing a substance to be removed from body fluid in extracorporeal circulation treatment comprising a porous cellulose gel on which a ligand having an affinity for the substance is immobilized by a covalent linkage by reacting the porous cellulose gel with epichorohydrin or a polyoxirane compound to introduce epoxy groups into the gel and reacting the resulting epoxy-activated gel with the ligand.
A process of preparing an adsorbent for removing a substance to be removed from body fluid in extracorporeal circulation treatment which comprises immobilizing a ligand having an affinity for the substance on a porous cellulose gel by reacting the porous cellulose gel with epichlorohydrin of a polyoxirane compound to introduce eposy groups into the gel and reacting the resulting epoxy-acitvated gel with the ligand.
