Abstract
Cellulase is produced by culturing a strain of genus Acremonium in a culture medium and isolating produced cellulase from the culture medium.

A method for the manufacture of cellulase comprising the steps of culturing Acremonium cellulolyticus FERM P-6867 in a culture medium containing a carbon source, a nitrogen source, and a small amount of metal salt.
A method for the treatment of cellulose with cellulase, comprising the steps of culturing Acremonium cellulolyticus FERM P-6867 in a culture medium containing a carbon source, a nitrogen source, and a small amount of metal salt, thereby producing cellulase;
- collecting cellulase from said culture medium;
- and adding said cellulase to cellulose, thereby hydrolyzing cellulose into glucose.
