Acrylic polyurethane coating composition

A coating composition having a binder solids content of 5-75% by weight and 95-25% by weight in an organic liquid;

• wherein the binder consists essentially of about
• (1) 50-95% by weight of an acrylic polymer having a backbone consisting essentially of polymerized monomers selected from the group consisting of alkyl methacrylate, alkyl acrylate each having 1-12 carbon atoms in the alkyl group, styrene or mixtures thereof and polymerized ethylenically unsaturated ester monomers that form ester groups pending from the carbon atoms of the polymer backbone and consist of about 10 to 75% of the total weight of the polymer and consist of ester group (A) ##STR9## and ester group (B) selected from the group consisting of ##STR10## or mixtures thereof;
• wherein ester group B is formed by reacting carboxyl groups pending from the backbone of the acrylic polymer with glycidyl esters of the formula ##STR11## R.sup.1 is a saturated hydrocarbon group having 2-4 carbon atoms, R.sup.2 is a tertiary hydrocarbon group having 8 through 10 carbon atoms;
• and
• (2) 5-50% by weight of an aliphatic, aromatic or cycloaliphatic polyisocyanate.
