Silver halide photographic emulsion

A silver halide photographic emulsion, comprising:

• a binder having dispersed therein:
• silver halide grains;
• a sensitizing dye represented by general formula (I);
• and
• a compound represented by general formula (II):
• ##STR11## wherein:
• W.sub.1, W.sub.2, W.sub.3 and W.sub.4, which may be the same or different, each represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkyl group, a cycloalkyl group, an alkenyl group, an acyl group, an acyloxy group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, a carbamoyl group, a sulfamoyl group, a cyano group, a trifluromethyl group or a hydroxy group;
• R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4, which may be the same or different, each represents an unsubstituted or substituted alkyl group;
• an unsubstituted or substituted cycloalkyl group or an unsubstituted or substituted alkenyl group, provided that at least one of R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 represents a substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl or alkenyl group containing a sulfo group or a carboxy group;
• X represents an acid anion;
• n represents 1 or 2;
• ##STR12## wherein:
• R.sub.5 represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, an acyloxy group, an alkoxy group, an amino group, a substituted amino group, an acylamido group or a carbamoyl group;
• Y represents an alkylene group, an arylene group, an aralkylene group, --COO-- or --COO--Y.sub.1 --OCO-- where Y.sub.1 represents an alkylene group, an arylene group or an aralkylene group;
• X.sub.1 represents an anion;
• m.sub.1 and m.sub.2 each represents an integer of from 1 to 19.
