Abstract
This disclosure describes novel Schiff bases of 1,4-bis[(.omega.-aminoalkyl)amino]-9,10-anthracenediones and leuco bases thereof which are useful as chelating agents and for inducing regression of leukemia and/or inhibiting tumor growth in mammals.
Claims16
A compound of the formula:
- ##STR24## wherein n is 2 or 3;
- R is hydrogen or hydroxy;
- R.sub.1 is hydrogen or alkyl(C.sub.1 -C.sub.3);
- R.sub.2 is hydrogen, alkyl(C.sub.1 -C.sub.6), 1-naphthyl, 2-naphthyl, 2-furyl, 3-furyl, 2-thienyl, 3-thienyl, 2-pyridyl, 3-pyridyl, 4-pyridyl, pentafluorophenyl or a moiety of the formula:
- ##STR25## wherein R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 may be the same or different and are each hydrogen, hydroxy, fluoro, chloro, bromo, cyano, trifluoromethyl, alkyl(C.sub.1 -C.sub.3), alkoxy(C.sub.1 -C.sub.3), dimethylamino or benzyloxy;
- and R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 taken together is --(CH.sub.2).sub.m -- wherein m is 4, 5 or 6.
