The subject matter of this invention is the use of 3-chlorobenzyl-3,6-dichloro-2-methoxybenzoate to increase the recoverable sugar in grapes.

A method of increasing the recoverable sugar in grapes which comprises applying to the grapes an effective amount of 3-chlorobenzyl-3,6-dichloro-2-methoxybenzoate.
