Abstract
Novel chiral phosphines are disclosed which when complexed with rhodium provide catalyst compositions for asymmetric hydrogenations.

A rhodium complex with a chiral phosphine of the formula ##STR9## wherein R represents aryl and R.sup.1 represents a group of the formula ##STR10## in which R.sup.2 represents aryl, di(lower alkyl)amino, hydroxy, aryloxy or lower alkoxy.
