Abstract
Blends of (a) 80-93 weight percent of an ethylene/acid ionomer, and (b) 7-20 weight percent of a propylene/.alpha.-olefin copolymer are used to prepare peelable seals having nearly constant and predictable peel strength over an extended heat seal temperature range. Some of the seals so produced also show stress whitening.
Claims4
Coextrusions for producing film characterized by a nearly constant peel strength over an extended heat seal temperature range, made from a molecular blend of polymeric materials comprising:
- (a) 80-93 weight percent of an ethylene/acid ionomer, and
- (b) 7-20 weight percent of a propylene/.alpha.-olefin copolymer, wherein the .alpha.-olefin comprises 1-12 weight percent of the copolymer, and wherein said coextrusion further comprises at least one extrudable material other than said molecular blend.
Laminates characterized by a nearly constant peel strength over an extended heat seal temperature range, made from a molecular blend of polymeric materials comprising:
- (a) 80-93 weight percent of an ethylene/acid ionomer, and
- (b) 7-20 weight percent of a propylene/.alpha.-olefin copolymer, wherein the .alpha.-olefin comprises 1-12 weight percent of the copolymer, and wherein said laminate further comprises a substrate other than said molecular blend.
Packages having peelable seals characterized by a nearly constant peel strength over an extended heat seal temperature range made from a molecular blend of polymeric materials comprising:
- (a) 80-93 weight percent of an ethylene/acid ionomer, and
- (b) 7-20 weight percent of a propylene/.alpha.-olefin copolymer, wherein the .alpha.-olefin comprises 1--12 weight percent of the copolymer.
