Abstract
A rare earth element activated divalent metal represented by the formula M.sup.II FX.xSiO.sub.2 :yLn wherein M.sup.II is at least one divalent metal selected from the group consisting of Ba, Ca, Sr, Mg, Zn and Cd; Ln is at least one rare earth element selected from the group consisting of Eu, Tb, Ce, Tm, Dy, Pr, Ho, Nd, Yb, Er, Sm and Gd; X is at least one halogen selected from the group consisting of Cl, Br and I; x and y are numbers satisfying the condition 5.times.10.sup.-5 .ltoreq.x.ltoreq.0.5 and of 0<y.ltoreq.0.2, respectively. This phosphor has improved characteristics such as the high luminance of emission, the high powder fluidity and good afterglow property.
Claims3
A rare earth element activated divalent metal fluorohalide phosphor represented by the formula
- M.sup.II FX.xSiO.sub.2 :yLn
- wherein M.sup.II is at least one divalent metal selected from the group consisting of Ba, Ca, Sr, Mg, Zn and Cd;
- Ln is at least one rare earth element selected from the group consisting of Eu, Tb, Ce, Tm, Dy, Pr, Ho, Nd, Yb, Er, Sm and Gd;
- X is at least one halogen selected from the group consisting of Cl, Br and I;
- and x and y are numbers satisfying the conditions of 10.sup.-5 .ltoreq.x.ltoreq.0.3 and 0<y.ltoreq.0.2, respectively, and exhibiting a faster decay of afterglow than said phosphor, absent SiO.sub.2.
