Abstract
This disclosure describes novel substituted aralkanamidobenzoic acids and analogs thereof. These compounds are useful pharmaceutical agents for ameliorating atherosclerosis by inhibiting the formation and development of atherosclerotic lesions in the arterial wall of mammals.
Claims49
A compound of the formula:
- ##STR7## wherein A is a moiety of the formulae:
- ##STR8## wherein R is alkyl (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4) or phenyl substituted with one or more substituents selected independently of X from the group consisting of those from which X is selected;
- X represents one or more substituents independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl, hydroxy, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkoxy, halo, and nitro;
- Y represents one or more substituents independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl, hydroxy, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkoxy, halo, trifluoromethyl, nitro, amino, acetamido, acetyl, formyl, cyano, carboxy, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)carboalkoxy, carboxamido, sulfonamido, --CO.sub.2 CH.sub.2 CO.sub.2 C.sub.2 H.sub.5, --CO.sub.2 CH.sub.2 CO.sub.2 CH.sub.3, and --CO.sub.2 CH.sub.2 CO.sub.2 H;
- and the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof.
