Abstract
A composition for a liquid crystal display containing at least one nematic liquid crystalline material having dissolved therein at least one anthraquinonic dye of the formula ##STR1## wherein R is a linear or branched C.sub.7-15 alkyl group.

Nematic liquid crystalline composition comprising (i) at least one nematic liquid crystalline material, and (ii) dissolved in (i), the anthraquinonic dye compound of the formula:
