Abstract
A process for selectively forming nitro compounds by contacting, at elevated temperature and pressure and in a homogeneous gas phase, an aldehyde having from two to ten carbon atoms with nitrogen dioxide alone or in the presence of oxygen and/or water.
Claims18
A process for selectively forming nitroalkanes comprising contacting in a reaction zone in a homogeneous gas phase and at an elevated pressure of from about 5 to about 20 bars, a temperature of from about 100.degree. C. to about 500.degree. C. and a time of from about 0.5 to 20 seconds at least one C.sub.2 -C.sub.10 aliphatic aldehyde with nitrogen dioxide and recovering the formed nitroalkane compound.
