Abstract
3-[(Z)-1-Propen-1-yl]-7-acylamido cephalosporins in which the 7-acyl group is phenylglycyl or substituted phenylglycyl are orally active antibiotics against Gram+ and Gram- bacteria.

7.alpha.-(D)-Phenylglycylamido-3-propenyl cephalosporin derivatives having the formula ##STR31## wherein the 3-propenyl group has the Z-configuration, R.sup.1 is hydrogen, chlorine, or methoxy, and R.sup.2 is hydrogen, or hydroxy with the proviso that when R.sup.2 is hydrogen R.sup.1 is also hydrogen, and the pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition and metal salts thereof, said salts being antibacterially effective on oral or parenteral administration.
