Abstract
There is provided a new class of derivatives of 2-nitro-5-(substituted-phenoxy) benzoyl compounds that have pre- and post-emergence herbicidal activity. The derivatives include certain substituted phenyl esters, phenyl thioesters; heterocyclic esters; substituted alkyl and alkylthio esters; carbonates and thiocarbonates; benzoyl phosphonates; substituted alkanones and substituted amides.

A herbicidal compound of the formula:
- ##STR119## wherein Q is O or S and Het is a heterocyclic ring selected from the group consisting of s-triazinyl;
- 2,3-dihydro-pyridazinyl;
- 1,2,5-thiadiazolyl;
- 1,3,4-thiadiazol-5-yl;
- 1,2-dithio-5-21;
- a tetrahydro-thiophene-1,1-dioxide;
- 2-chloro-6-pyridinyl,1,2-dihydro-1,6-dim ethyl-2-oxo-4-pyridinyl with a provision that the term Q is S when Het represents 2-pyridinyl-N-oxide.
